Message From A Child

Dear Dad, it’s me your little girl…..

I’m growing up so fast

I wish you could see me now…..

Grandad taught me to read

And guess what, I can write too

I’ve written lots of letters to Mom

While she was in hospital

As I wasn’t allowed to visit

I know she misses you

And so do I

She doesn’t know where you live now

Just that you are far away

Across the sea

So I can’t post this letter

To your house

I have so much news to tell you

I’m very clever in school

I get to read from the Bible For the big girls classes

They think I’m great

And so do my friends

Some people are mean to me

And it makes me cry

When they say

I have no Dad

Because it’s not true

Oh please, won’t you come home…..

I want everyone to see you

Then I can prove that you’re real

I’m making my First Communion soon

And a really kind lady

Has made my dress

It’s so beautiful

I really want you to see me

wearing it

I’m so excited, I can’t wait ….

I love playing outside

Catching bumblebees on the green

I’m very good at skipping and hopscotch

My favourite thing to do is fishing

In the Glen for pinkeens

But they all die when I bring them home

I don’t understand it

Because I put them in the sink with fresh water…..

Anyway if you come home

You can help me with keeping them alive

Because Dads are good at those things

So I’m going to send you this letter

In one of my bottles or jam jars

And I hope it gets to you

Mom told me the story

Of how we lived by the riverbed

When I was just a baby

So you must like the water

I know you loved me then

I’ll wish upon a star

And pray every night

That my letter will somehow Find it’s way to you

Then you will know

That it’s ok to come home

PS, I love you Dad
